Blending Traditional and Digital: Finding Your Unique Visual Style
What I've always preferred - is mixing styles. 🎨
On Friday I followed a bikablo training, which was by design 100% on good old paper and markers. On the next day morning, I immediately wanted to apply the learnings, but on the iPad. We're in 2024 and most of what I do is digital, anyway. 💁♂️
I quickly found out that applying EXACTLY the same techniques digitally didn't 100% work for me. Something felt... forced. 😩
Therefore for a session this morning, instead of going to a 100% bikablo-style visual as I initially wanted, I tried to combine the best of both worlds :
→ PowerPoint. You might hate PowerPoint, but don't blame the tool. Blame the decks with 73 slides with too much information on each
→ A custom background with tiny visuals, 0 effort there I admit (but it looks good)
→ Starting with a meme / GIF to continue with bikablo key visuals (revealed one by one) creates an element of surprise : ↗ impact
→ I initially purchased the Procreate / Neuland GmbH & Co. KG starterset to do this design... ended up only using it for the handwriting, but used a "cleaner" brush for the drawings. The common expectation is digital designs are usually cleaner... up to you to follow this expectation or not 😊
What is your approach? On my side, using bikablo techniques as an extra tool in my backpack instead of using them as an independent approach will give me more energy, and will add some uniqueness in the visualization style. Looking forward to explore this further! 🙌
PS. Big up Koen De keersmaecker for the training - it was worth every second!
