From Scrum Master to Agile Coach: A Natural Evolution

"A common progression from Scrum Master to Agile Coach", according to Lyssa Adkins in her famous book Coaching Agile Teams.

As amazing and interesting the Scrum Master job is, when gaining experience and exploring new ways to do your job you will most likely come across and explore those extra elements mentioned there... even without the clear intention to become an Agile Coach some day.

Sometimes you do clear career switches on purpose, and sometimes things just evolve naturally before you even notice 💁‍♂️

I have mixed feelings about this progression from Scrum Master to Agile Coach narrative.
I'm not sure how this fosters a space for Scrum Masters to be the real change agents that the organisation needs. To be the ones that speak truth to power, to uphold a mirror in front of everyone - their team members, people influencing the team and more.
