Making Retrospectives Engaging Without Losing Focus
New Retrospective = New opportunity to use the good old Game’o’Spective. 🎲
I say “good old” but it has always been a prototype… changing the rules just a little bit every time also helps seeing what works best, what is really needed or not. Agile, AM I RIGHT? 🤷♂️
This is just a reminder : Retrospectives don’t need to be serious :
👉 Running the same “Start Stop Continue” every time will likely bring the same output every time. Routine in, routine out.
👉 Having a “fun” retro is often not fun for everyone. So yes, you can play “Truth or Dare” or dance on tables, but it might be fun only for the extraverts in the group… and the lack of outcomes might increase the resistance for your next Retrospectives.
The truth is often somewhere in the middle. Finding a way to make fun part of the Retrospectives without compromising on their goal (identifying improvement action points for the team) is the key… just like it’s the key for work in general 😊
