Meeting size matters: balance value against hidden costs

There is no magic formula or magic book (no, not even that one) to tell you who you need around the table to have a good discussion.

What you need to keep in mind though, is that every person added to a meeting has a cost :

→ Possibly less engagement from participants when they're in a big group
→ Extra facilitation effort needed
→ Risk of decreasing psychological safety and free speech

So yes, you can involve extra people in your Backlog Refinement sessions, brainstorming workshops, Sprint Reviews... just make sure that the value it would bring is bigger that this cost 💁🏻‍♂️

Any unusual setup that turned out to be efficient despite being very wrong on paper?
