Onboarding Insights: When Workshop Feedback Becomes Deeper Learning
These last 2 days, I was at the amazing XP Days Benelux 2024, during which I hosted a brand new workshop, "How to nail (or fail) your first 30 days in a new team". 🔥
During this workshop, we run through the onboarding period of Denise and help her taking the right decisions, based on specific brain science concepts. 🧠
I was amazed by the positive feedback received after the session 😍, split between the online feedback and the paper feedback (everything is in the pictures attached, in full transparency). What amazes me even more, is the conversations it triggered a few hours later and the next day :
→ Why putting everything on the Denise's shoulders?
→ How could she stand the pressure of both needing to learning about her new job and navigating through the emotional expectations from her new teammates?
→ Would the interpretations have been different with Dennis instead of Denise?
→ What does it say about us (as a group of majorly coaches) if we agree to judge so quickly a decision without having the full context of her (and the team's) situation?
It's entirely true... and at the same time, it reflects the majority of onboardings (and people interactions in general) during which we rely too much on our perspective of things without digging deeper. 💁♂️
I'll need more time to get things fully clear in my mind, but this workshop might become something bigger, approaching all aspects of onboarding 😊 🚀
Thanks again to everyone who joined the session, everyone who couldn't but reached out about it afterwards, everyone who engaged a conversation to share their feedback, and Re-Evented for having me as a speaker ❤️
