The Personal Object: A Team Building Game That Works

One of my favourite Team Building exercises is the Personal Object.

- Ask the participants to bring a personal object from home
- Ask them to discretely place their object in a big box (you get bonus engagement points if you personalize the box with the team's name)
- Ask someone to pick something from the box and try to guess whose object it is (and why).
- Once the right person is found, they can give extra context about the object
- If the loop is closed before everyone gets a chance to guess, name another person to guess an object.

💡 This exercise is often played with just placing the objects on a table. But then people try to guess beforehand and it ruins the game a bit
💡 Filling the box at the beginning of the session and only playing the game at the end of the session will add some sense of mystery and impatience around the box. And it's a nice way to close the session with what you started it with.
💡 Don't make it TOO awkward. If someone gives a wrong name twice, just give the challenge to the group !
💡 Of course, some people will forget 😄 Seeing how they can cope and improvise by finding something on the spot can also add to the fun !

I love this activity and used it for years!
I have a similar activity in Mural where people upload 4 pictures (3 based on shared prompts and 1 wild card) the team then have to guess who lives where ☺️☺️

It was great fun Erik! I still wonder how they could guess that the old music cassette tape was mine 😉
