The Scrum Master role is evolving—adapt or risk becoming obsolete

⚠️ The market is difficult for Scrum Masters. And will still be in 2026.

Does it mean it's the end? That all Scrum Masters will need to reorient or pivot in the course of next year? Luckily, no! 🫶

But if you're still doing the job like most were doing it in 2017, you might need to worry a little bit. A few examples :

▶️ The meeting host - whose main focus is to facilitate the Scrum events, and disappears between them
▶️ The one who doesn't understand the Business - while the Business is the starting point of everything else
▶️ The one who can't support their PO - even if Backlog Management, prioritisation and stakeholder management is the PO's accountabilities... you should be able to step in in these ones when needed

Time to adapt our way to do the job to the market and the context of our company or client - connect to their challenges and be the one who leads the way to a solution. This is way more important than moving tickets during a Daily Stand-Up 👋

Any other examples? Please shout 😬

Love it.
Some can even perceive you as mean. But I see that as a wake up call, a friendly tip to stay relevant in the company and in the market. Even more now that it's not very easy to find and keep jobs.

100%! The role has shifted from “running ceremonies” to “driving value.”
Curious — what do you think is the most underrated skill Scrum Masters should develop to stay future-ready?
