Vision Drives Alignment, Alignment Drives Clarity

Vision → alignment.
Alignment → clarity.

For quite some time I’ve seen team members doing the work they were requested to do. Executing the work. 🫡

With the idea that it’s not worth the effort, a lot of Team Leads, Managers, Product Owners often skip the part where the vision and the goal is clarified. Removing this perspective from the people who will do the work prevents them from participating to the design of the solution and from assessing the added value of their work. Both will have a negative impact on their motivation, their engagement and by extension by the quality of the product itself. 📉

So in any kind of roadmap exercise or Backlog Refinement, always include a part where the benefit hypothesis of a feature is discussed :

→ WHAT you want to do
→ WHO you’re doing it for
→ WHY you’re doing it (as in, what is the expected impact)
→ HOW you’re going to measure the success afterwards

Investing this time at the beginning will make everyone earn much more time afterwards 😊
